Collaboration

Feel welcome and at ease in this safe space, secure in the knowledge that your choices will be respected. In control of the pace and the content, learning about regulation and awareness with an emphasis on how movement feels rather than how it looks. This felt sense of safety and of agency is the foundation that offers you the freedom to explore.

2

Movement

We offer gentle, safe and progressive Yoga classes with trauma sensitive language to build strength, easeful movement and reconnect you to your body. Through combining movement and breath, you begin to have a conversation with yourself, increasing the ability to listen to the messages your body is telling you. This mind body experiential learning can be transformative and empowering, enhancing resilience, healing and support your sleep quality.

3

Breathwork

How we breathe matters. Our breath can be a tool to bring back balance and support regulation. Our classes explore different yogic breathing practices which are progressive to promote steadiness and ease, agency of self and also include grounding and orienting practices alongside the meditation and breathwork.

Feel supported, without pressure

A space with no expectation or judgements, a place for you to reflect, share and develop with learning resources and support.  We know the power and importance of safe connections and community, both are fundamental to enable satisfying and meaningful lives.  Sustaining a regular yoga practice sharing knowledge of the effect that stress and trauma have on our bodies and nervous system, reflecting upon tolerance, resilience and stress management can support the maintenance of a more balanced physical, emotional and mental state.

Emotional regulation

Pranayama practices explore the quality of our breath and the connection between body breath and mind. We find out how our breath can restore a sense of calm by quietening the nervous system and engaging our relaxation response making us feel composed, calm and focused. We can teach practices in order to consciously cultivate sattva, and to explore the themes of presence, mindfulness, self-compassion, interoception, embodiment, self-regulation and self-awareness which can result in more settled emotions and settled thoughts.

Skills for life

Yoga practices can be called upon whenever we need them, because generally we practice yoga when we feel ok and this is when our mind and body are most receptive to learning and absorbing new experiences. This means the techniques and skills you've learnt in class will be embodied and available whenever you need them, just like a reliable old friend. We want you to leave the class feeling like you've done something good for yourself and you gain some useful skills that you can take 'off the mat’ and into day-to-day life.

Breathing Space Wellbeing Series for Charities & other Organisations

“The body always leads us home … if we can simply learn to trust sensation and stay with it long enough for it to reveal appropriate action, movement, insight, or feeling.” – Pat Ogden

How this series came about

I am a social worker, a manager, and a social work trainer. The knowledge and experience I have gained over 20+ years responding to the difficulties faced by adults, children and families forms the foundation of Breathing Space ethos and values. I am a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sister, a friend, a dog owner & a British Wheel of Yoga (BWYDip500) trained Yoga teacher and student. Navigating life and all that it brings, within the framework of Hatha yogic practices' and philosophy, forms this series' content.
